FARMERS TO BENEFIT FROM $200M FED BUDGET ANNOUNCEMENT

In good news for Australian Farmers, last week’s Federal Budget announcement included almost $200 million in new funding over four years to implement a National Soil Strategy.

As part of the strategy, a two year National Soil Monitoring and Incentives Program will be trialled to improve understanding of Australia’s soil condition and assist farmers to improve productivity and profitability. This pilot program will include payments to farmers and land managers to undertake soil testing and capture soil data for the purpose of informing the program, and utilising for their own on farm improvements.

These incentives are designed to encourage more farmers and land owners to undertake regular, comprehensive soil testing in exchange for sharing their soil data with the program.

Precision Agriculture strongly endorses this initiative and looks forward to assisting in its rollout across the country.
