Incorporating Variable Rate Irrigation Technologies in Tasmanian Dairies
Ongoing
Project Timeline: 2021-
Dairy Tas & Clovelly Dairy
This project will provide a practical demonstration of the pathway to effective implementation of VRI practices, with the aim of increasing the utilisation of VRI technologies across the Tasmanian dairy industry with substantial economic and environmental benefit. It will use extensive baseline sampling, such EM38 and elevation surveys, to provide critical and specific information regarding the flow of water and the variability of soil type which significantly impacts the Water Use Efficiency, specific for each pivot. It will use a demonstration site at Clovelly Dairies in Bridport to engage directly with growers in the existing Waterhouse Beyond Water Smart Irrigation Discussion Group and with the broader Tasmanian industry.
